Mark Herzlich training in 2011 at IMG Academies

Herzlich, a former IMG Academies NFL Combine trainee, has made giant steps since being told two years ago that he may never walk again after being diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.  Herzlich missed the entire 2009 season at his alma mater Boston College recovering and regaining his strength, but returned the following season winning a plethora of awards for his courageous comeback, including the Disney Spirit Award, Nils V. “Swede” Nelson Award, ACC Commissioner’s Cup, Rudy Award and the ACC’s Brian Piccolo Award.

Herzlich was signed as an undrafted free agent in July 2011, making the New York Giants’ 53-man roster. On November 20th, 2011, Herzlich made his first NFL start for the Giants at linebacker. Now, just two months later, he is about to play in one of football – and the world of sports the sporting world’s most prestigious events.

The IMG Academies family wishes the best for the linebacker in the upcoming Super Bowl, and commends him for his successful battle against cancer, along with his current successes in the NFL.
