One of the oldest amateur events in history, The Dixie Amateur, originated in 1924 in the Miami area. Each year, this even attracts a strong field of talented amateur players.  The event has changed venues over the years, but it is currently contested at the Heron Bay Golf Club, the site of the PGA TOUR’S Honda Classic from 1997-2002.

This year’s event finished with 3 Leadbetter alumni at the top of the Leaderboard. Peter Uihlein finished the 54-hole, weather-shortened event at 11-under 205 and was the only player to shoot all three rounds in the 60s (68-68-69).  After regulation play, Peter found himself tied for the lead with fellow IMG alum, Mu Hu, from China. Mu Hu fired a spectacular  final round 67 to catch Peter on the last day.

The two headed back out to the course for a sudden-death playoff and in a thrilling playoff victory, Peter, the world’s 10th ranked amateur and Walker Cup player beat Florida’s Mu Hu on Heron Bay Golf Club’s signature 18th hole.  UCLA star and former Leadbetter student, Gregor Main of Danville, tied for 3rd at 206.
