PDL’s Academics start playoffs tonight

The Bradenton Academics at IMG Academies are one of nearly 70 teams from around the country representing the United Soccer Leagues in the Premier Development League, which mainly consists of college-age players. The league will run throughout the summer.

After spending much of the season atop the Southeast Division, the Bradenton Academics will play tonight in hopes of getting another shot at the team that knocked them out of first place in the last game of the season.

The Academics (9-2-5) travel to New Orleans to face the Jesters (5-0-11) at 8 p.m. tonight, with the winner advancing to face division champion Mississippi Brilla on Saturday.

Bradenton went o-1-1 against New Orleans this year, with both games occuring in May. The teams tied 2-2 on May 16 and New Orleans prevailed 2-1 May 31 at Academy Park.

Leonardo Barros and Brandon Chagnard lead New Orleans with six goals each. Zak Boggs paces the Academics with nine goals, while Ederson Lopes has seven.
