Former top Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy student and current freshman phenom Mallory Cecil helped the Duke University women’s tennis team capture its first national championship with a 4-0 win over UC-Berkley on Tuesday.
Playing doubles, Cecil and Jessi Robinson earned the first point of the championship for Duke with an 8-5 victory.
Cecil, Duke’s No. 1 singles player, was then up 6-4, 3-1 in her singles match when the overall match was called.
